I do not talk about my personal situation at all. I never have. If you have me as a Facebook friend then you will notice I do not include personal information at all. I'm big on privacy, privacy laws, and the need for privacy.
My violin shop is for all practical purposes no more. There are a lot of factors involved with this, but primarily I'm not big on governing bodies to deal with the crap that they create. Party; left and right - they matter not. Stupid knows not party boundary.
In the midst of creating for the World Of Talus, I've had a lot of chaos going on in the background. It does not affect my work in Talus, but it can't help but affect my work on Talus, if you catch my meaning. Talus will continue - it is very important to me and I will continue to have a primary role here until something else comes along that is better.
I'm at a crossroads right now. I'm no longer a luthier, and that's too bad, because I'm very good at repairing instruments....and not just violin family instruments. The economy here in Oregon cannot support what I do and I've had to do other things. That's just the way it is here.
Violins is not the only thing I'm good at. I've always been really good with computers, and I've been programming before the vast majority of you were born. I'm good at management and I've been doing that for most of the past 28 years. I'm not limited and I don't consider myself to be.
That said, 2011 and the failure of my livelihood has taken a huge toll on me. I've never been in a worse financial and personal state. I've never been in a place where I had to count dollars to try and have enough food and gas to get to the next paycheck. I've never been in a place where I had no recourse. I've had no recourse and that's been the case for a long time now. And I've been LUCKY- imagine! being lucky to be poor, not having enough to pay bills, but being more fortunate than the next that has NO options! It's a disgrace, and Congress continues to screw up at all junctures. So does the local economy. If I could shoot almost everyone in Congress and replace them, I would. I don't care what your party affiliation is. I only care whether you've been corrupted by money the way all of Congress has been.
I'm a security guard these days. I got lucky at that; I had trained in taekwondo and happened upon a local place where I found part time work. I'm now a full time guard. It has sucked for a lot of reasons, but since any recovery has not impacted Oregon at all I'm still fortunate - to a degree. How are you doing financially? Mull over your personal numbers. I'm going to let you in my little private world. I bring in less than $800 a month. What if that was you? What would you drop as an unnecessary expense? Can you make ends meet? Do you reel and say to yourself that you're glad it's not you? It's not an academic problem for me. It's not a hypothetical for me. That's my reality. That's the reality for millions of Americans. If that's not your reality then by all means breathe a sigh of relief but it could be you, too.
I had a job interview today. It was a very odd interview in that I've never been interviewed by a panel of professionals with rapid-fire questions designed to induce answers based upon stress....I've never been in an interview where computer knowledge seemed as important as knowledge in security. It was the most unusual interview I've ever been in.
This interview is for a job that can completely change my circumstance. I killed it - or at least I think I did. I will know in a couple of days. I have an opportunity to use a great many talents to not only greatly improve my circumstance, but I can improve the situation of others.
If you pray, pray for me please. If you do not, then cross your fingers or wish me good bidings because if I get this job a lot of good will come of it.
