I've been busy at home and at work and continue to be; however, I will be doing some playing this week to check out some areas that I plan to update.

Here's where I'm at on updates: - I'm finally taking a character (with help) out on Battle Sands and finding some problems. I am fixing them as I go along.
- I'm getting back to work on Stone Tower and Abandoned Village (which will be called Village Ruins). Stone Tower will be an ancient area much like Grand Chasm Pumps except that there will be DM only areas in it. Abandoned Village will become Village Ruins and will still have spiders, and silk for crafting. There will be some ruins interiors there as well. I'm looking for the interiors to be interesting for under level 20, and I'll probably add custom critters to make it so.
- I will also be updating the surface Halidian Flats areas.
Look for these updates in the next week and a half! I will also be doing other updates as listed.

I pulled or bruised my back so I'm having to sit in little spurts. I'm trying to get some updates done and in today and if there's players on later I may run a quest, if my back will allow for it.

I am currently working on Stone Tower. Stone Tower will be expanded upon in what will be (I hope) an interesting way. Like some of the other ancient remnants of Talus before the Planar Rift, you can expect to find constructs, and I will add some new ones if needed. Stone Tower will have an upper section or sections. There will be DM areas connected with Stone Tower and you'll see why when I'm done. Stone Tower will have a basement that will connect with the Underdark and I'm considering making this an entry to the Underdark rather than the cave in Sinkhole Forest. I think that in the big picture having the Underdark connect with Stone Tower makes more sense than the present arrangement. At the same time I will do some rearranging with the Underdark areas. After I'm done with that I will work on the new and improved Alvar. Alvar and the Southern Peridotia areas will be updated and fully in place before Lomatin is laid to waste. And I will destroy Lomatin with a cruel natural disaster. Or is it natural?? *diabolical laughter*

This is what is in the works for updates: - The new Alvar. I am working on the layout for the updated Alvar. Alvar will be a large city that will incorporate aspects of Lomatin and the Southern Peridotia Coast, especially as it relates to merchants. Lomatin will be no longer when Alvar is set up; it will be laid to waste and become a shantytown. I am moving merchants, crafting, the prison, and boats from Lomatin to Alvar. Alvar will have limited housing. A lot of housing from West Lomatin will simply vanish. It is not being used and as far as I'm concerned it's wasted space and resources. If you are actively using a house in West Lomatin you must let me know so that the interior and contents can be moved to Alvar. I will keep a copy of Lomatin and all of it's interiors just in case something is needed. I will have an additional thread regarding Alvar because things are going to be quite different there - it's not just going to be a matter of moving our favorite areas from Lomatin and making it work in Alvar.
- Transportation is going to change. This will be twofold. 1) It will cost some nominal gold to use a boat. By nominal, I mean up to a few hundred gold. 2) The casement in Trodor's Tower is going to be changed to a portal that will get you to major places in Talus, for a large fee. We're talking thousands of gold. There's plenty of gold to be made so this is one way to create a worthwhile use of gold. These portals will be in place in major cities and provided you have the gold (and perhaps location tokens) to use the portals, they will be very handy to cover long distances. The portal system in Peri Port, Lomatin (Alvar), and Snow City will remain as it is.
- I need to address the box that players get when they create a character, the one that has the PAW. The other items in the box are useless for our purposes so I'm going to look at addressing that and making a smaller container; a pouch or something. I'm also going to look at adding a token that will let players know where other players characters are adventuring on Talus - kind of a PC GPS. That way, for example, if you wanted to do a quest that involved going to Smuggler's Point but didn't want to go there if someone is already there, then you use the token to find that out. I'm thinking over some aspects of what should be revealed based on what criteria, but I'm looking at incorporating something that will be part of a players bag when they create a character, along with the PAW and anything else that might be essential to PC play.
- Halidian Flats. Yeah, I was going to rework the surface areas a bit and I'm still going to. There will be a bit more in the way of an Asabi encampment and gradual rise in CR levels of enemies. Plus, the Stingers or whatever the heck they are will be incorporated as part of all this and be on both sides, with some specific loot based on their CR levels. The place needs a little tweaking so that's what I aim to do.

Currently I'm working on Alvar and Lomatin layouts. I'm also working on some merchant modifications. For example, merchants that only buy at a good price when you reach X level, or sell something to you when you reach x level (regardless of the NWN level of the item). Also, I'm working on merchants and quests that will only function if you're a certain class, race, or alignment. I have some other goodies in mind and will keep you updated as they materialize.

One of the most exciting things for new players is seeing items merchants have, because then they have a goal in mind of what they want to earn their money to buy. So I think being able to see all items at any level should still be available. Although I have seen servers that have merchants that show better gear after players have completed quests. So every time a quest is completed a new selection form the merchant is available when you talk to it. It'll ask which items you want to look at. Standard, novice, veteran, elite, master..blah blah blah. Or maybe you can have quests drop tokens on the bosses of elite areas that allow you to cash them in for special items? Could also make those special items and tokens plot and no drop so people can't just sell them for cash, would stop people from continueously doing the same boss over for the special items. Just some random ideas.

Just some random ideas. Possibly. What I'm after in that regard is that Lanthar likes to have items with multiple capabilities, especially weapons, in the hands of higher level players than the weapon technically allows. I'm trying to think of non-onerous ways to do that. And, if the merchant says "I have better things but come back when you're more seasoned" it adds some mystery as to what that might be. I think the other way around (better stores not buying items until level x) is probably more helpful in terms of slowing down the gold supply so that hopefully we don't have millionaires at level 7. What I want to do is make running around to different merchants worthwhile and more relevant. Right now there's only a couple of merchants I use because I really don't need the others. I'm getting geared up for a major overhaul so that it's 1) Necessary to get around more, and 2) I can have merchants sell nicer race, class, and alignment based items because if you don't qualify then you don't see the store. That way I can nip some at UMD instead of having rogues get anything and everything they want.

Sorry for my absence - there was a death in the family, and the memorial was last week. I pulled a tendon or tore a muscle in my leg, and then had 11 hours of walking Sat night so my legs were shot. Then mysterling and I have some sort of low level cold or something; not sure what's up with that. Still not feeling good today but I have been building, unlike the previous bunch of days. Making good progress and I think I have all the major areas laid out with the exception of minor interiors for Lomatin and Alvar. I'm moving quests to the new areas and will see if they're surviving the move ok. It's also go time for how HC NPCs are to be outfitted, so as soon as I get that from HC Sayuri then those are going in. There will be HC NPC guards in Alvar in all 3 surface areas and the prison. (Lomatin Courthouse and Prison will be used in Alvar; renamed and revamped.) I will be adding the new merchants and then running a couple in some test areas to see how they work out before adding merchants, and then new quests, to Alvar. So far I think the only quest I'm deleting completely is the Johnny quest. The rest will be somewhere in some form and help you to look around in these new areas. I'm making crafting merchants for Alvar, which means Alvar, Rural Alvar, and the SE Peri Coast (that is, a shared interior area, different outdoor areas). One thing I am incorporating in these new crafting shops is personal storage in each shop. I have a system for all those chests in the House of Forges and can still be a bit lost looking for things. I thought that a storage chest or two in each crafting area would help for organization, so that I can keep track of where I have ore, enchanted bags, feathers, alchemy materials, etc. I think that those who like to craft will appreciate the individualized storage. So far I think I have 16 new major areas. Some of those are interiors which have many new areas inside of them. Over the course of the next month or so we're going to see a lot of new stuff.

Alright, I do believe the uniforms are done. Not the best, but its a good design considering the outdated styles we have.
If I might request integration of some new styles for clothing into the next big update? Perhaps an upgrade to the style models.
There are models that do armor, helms, shields and cloaks now, all at the same time.

So now we just have to hook up in game and I'll save your designs on my DM avatar, then it will be an easy matter to copy them to NPCs. I will then show you the array of HC NPCs and we'll make any necessary changes and go with it. I work late tonight and tomorrow night and don't expect to be available until 22:00 PST. I'm not sure what my weekend schedule is yet but will know later today.

That should be its own update, after these big changes go in, because it no doubt involves updating CEP (which has not been updated on the server for some time but will be after this monster update).

Today I've been doing the layout for the temples that will be in Alvar.
The Lady Of Whispers - This temple will have basics and primarily cater to rogues/rangers/shadowdancers of all alignments.
The Temple Of Cthorna - This temple will have an array of healing items. It will have an armorer and weaponsmith that primarily cater to cleric/paladin/COT/monk of all alignments.

The patron Dieties of HC are Tyr, Mystra, Mielikki, Helm & Lathander. Also highly worshiped amongst its people but not quite to the extent of the others are Torm, Oghma, Selune, Silvanus, Sune & Chauntea. Almost all the good and neutral gods are revered among HC society, but the above are the influential ones. Since Sayuri is a follower of Lathander, and Kisaki is a follower of Mystra, and most of the Royal Guard and Cavaliers follow Tyr and or Helm, if there is room either within the castle or in Alvar, temples or shrines to those deities would be appreciated. If nothing else, a Temple of Mystra would be wherever Kisaki is, as she is the head of that "church" in the HC homelands.
