I dont know if or how hard it would be to add this feature but it would be way cool if charcters got xp for successful class appropriate skill uses (in some cases) such as a rogue picking locks or disabling traps, setting traps.. Obviously a warrior gets rewarded for killing a monster so thats a given but we may not want to reward a mage for casting a spell, winning that battle may be enough xp. If we were to go down this road of rewarding certain spot checks or disable traps etc, it would be worth seeing if we could only do the reward based upon a value of difficulty. By that I mean we dont want a 6th lvl rogue to be able to lock and unlock a door that a lvl 2 rogue could do and just stand there xp harvesting. Anywho, bluff checks vs "plot" line npc might be nice, things along those lines.

After talking with slidermike, I've decided to set up a test mod with a couple of areas and test the crafting system he posted a link to. I'm at the point where I need to know what we're using for a crafting system before I get too much more involved with detailing resource and crafting areas. I figure it would give me an idea of how interesting or not that crafting system is. I'll report back after noodling with it a bit.

Just don't noodle too hard BW, it causes back spasms, heheh. About this 'doing away with Talus'... is this something that must be done? I do look forward to adventuring in a new realm but would sorely be saddened to lose the old, if that makes sense. Is it too much to attempt keeping both? I'm just asking is all. I have several characters that I wish to not lose but if it must be done then I'd have no choice really. I agree that new areas for adventure, an upgraded crafting system and perhaps even slidermike's idea of tidbits of xp gained in other areas would boost interest in gaming when no one else was on but I think we all can agree that the DM corps of Talus is what has spurred us all into returning over and over. I, for one, miss the excitement BW and Lt bring into grand quests. Although I'm not great at it, I have enjoyed taking part of Delta's quests at times. And I did try to be inventive as a DM. I am sorry that I missed the opportunity to be part of quests run by Lass or DH. Hopefully, there will be a return of the Dm corps whether we bound over to Talus2 or stay in the present Talus.
Just my few cents worth... Marcus

There has been only one wipe at SoU release Yeah, I think that SoU was released in the summer of 2003 - like maybe June? The first character I had was a bard who was wiped out in 2002. Then I built a high level thief who got eliminated in the second wipe. My current Sly Darkstar is the "third generation." How time flies... A new world might be nice, albeit a lot of work if started completely new. Perhaps it would be easier to gradually transform the current Talus eliminating some areas/quests and adding new ones? Alternatively, would it be possible to let both worlds run in parallel with a portal between them?

Alternatively, would it be possible to let both worlds run in parallel with a portal between them? This is what we are going to see if we can get working to our satisfaction.

Hello everyone, good to see all this talk of change over here.
Thanks to SliderMike for waking me out of my hibernation, since his phone call and message, I am indeed interested in working with the Talus 2 builder team still.
I don't really know how I feel about allot of the current talk right now. I mean, I have over 275 areas in Talus 1 as is right now and the thought of redoing that or even 50% of that is somewhat disheartening.
I do have an interesting RP idea as to how we might be able to restart the character vault and keep 2-3 of some of our more favourite characters and yet still be "new" and into another time, place or generation even. I'm still working out some of the finer points in it and hope to share this later with you.
In summary, since you all know I always want to open my big mouth and say something, the following is still my basic standing on Talus 2.
-Up for anything as long as it is new and different. -Would like to keep certain areas of Talus 1 with some rework on my part to add it to Talus 2. (South Peri Coast (with new name and to separate the story line into it's own story now centered among the TOTOL priesthood and the Animus Anhelo.) -Anything to do with the Freeblades and the UFTN -Snow City (always did like this place, just the name even too, being from Canada and all lol) -Most of the Norther Peri regions. (again, with some rework to eliminate references to Peridotia and the like). (If anything, just the goblin warrens then) -the Orgoth regions and thats about it as far as regions I would like to transfer over to T2. -Very interested still in the story theme and arc we had devised for the new continent of Alerra and the NWN2 T2 world. (We did very good with that !) -And yeah, basically doing whatever the community is interested in too as the majority.
*Yawns and stretches* Okay, back. ;D

I would be sad to see my characters go, especially the stand up comedian Rastan....but alas I dont play much anyway haha! Personally I have been waiting for something new to bring me back into this game. Starting a new module completely usually calls for a wipe. However, if many existing famous characters lore were implemented to keep the memories alive, I'm all for that.
As for wipes, the last one I remember was when SoU came out. Long time ago.

I wouldn't mind having ALL of my characters wiped and I think I'm the first here to say this. Even though the I have been coming back to Talus over and over again just to play Kharn I can say I wouldn't mind it. this would give me the chance to start out anew with new ideas. Starting anew with not only new players but old ones as well I think would better help us create character relationships, because we will no longer have such huge level differences. we'll all start out the same and can venture with each other on more even terms.

I think certain areas, the ones most relevant to an ongoing story related to pc's, Snow City for example, should be ported over. I'm up for a huge revamp of Peridotia, possibly even having it sink into the sea due to Cthorna moving someplace else in the world. Alvar and Mirek can be ditched, along with any outside maps. The Peridotia mines need to go, their time has passed I think. Characters need to stay, it's what makes the old folks still want to play, even if they can't be challenged by most new areas, that's no different from the problem they have now. Over level 30 chars are boring at present if they don't have some DMed story anyway. This would remain the case. How about someone make a new Lomatin, as a giant shanty town that remains after a tidal wave from the sinking of Peridotia washes most of Lomatin out to sea. Folks there can be refugees from all the deleted islands. Technically the new Lomatin would be miles inland from it's old location. Have the planet shift on it's axis, flipping the weather patterns around. This would explain any kind of changes you want with area's looking different. I just reread this post a couple of days ago and I'm mulling it over again. As intriguing as the idea of Peridotia sinking is to me, I think it has the most popular areas on it, and I don't think players past and present are ready to let go of the Peridotia mines, at least not yet. But the Lomatin areas? Different story, I think. I'm mulling over a story that I have in mind where an eruption in the Tartaran mountains all but wipes out Lomatin and changes the landscape. As a result, the new Alvar would be the big city in the World of Talus and Lomatin would be a place of controlled chaos. That would be the impetus for changing the areas north of Lomatin, and we'd see the update or replacement of the Lomatin Mtn areas, Blue lake and Blue river areas, Kitharmin areas...The Orgothians are adaptable enough that they would be able to relocate, and Snow City would be far enough away to not be affected in terms of climate BUT Snow City would be facing some serious hardship. There isn't farm or industry nearby so I've always thought that Snow City was dependent upon the farms and areas north of Lomatin, and upon shipping trade from Lomatin and if something happened Snow City would suffer economically, by lack of trade and famine. I just don't see how Snow City magically does not suffer. To accommodate game mechanics I would be inclined to move all Lomatin player housing to the new Alvar and Alvar housing (in terms of the realtor and what he lists) to Peridotia. So what does everyone think of a major revamp of Lomatin and the areas north of it?

The Western Snow City outpost port would have to be expanded to accommodate the increased demand of supplies. That's a heck of a pass to negotiate. I would see prices going up in SC as a result. But - that might be a good reason to expand some in the outpost, in a way that will involve players more than it does right now. Perhaps it has some goods at lower prices than SC, or some things that don't quite make it to SC. Or maybe that gives some reasoning for a NPC quest to help ferry supplies to SC. That would be physically the nearest port so it does give the Outpost a better reason for existing than it does now.

Yes, it would be rough there for a while. If that became the permanent primary port they might even dig a tunnel through the mountain to make transport easier. BTW, Snow City does have projects underway to raise food via mushrooms and bugs. This was part of some event roleplay over a year ago. All due to those pesky Orgothian raids and the like.

Im game for a revamp... Lets go LOW magic items !! The mines can go like rfree said, I never got here and if you make a new area that can accomplish what it serves then its just something else to explore. If we can reduce the amount of higher lvl magic items (weapons, armor etc) then maybe crafting a +3 might be a worthy operation. Of course we might have to tone down the monsters who were all over rated to deal with uber chars.
