I'm working on conversation and scripting for a bounty officer. Players will be able to turn in some things like a gargoyle skull or bodak tooth and get a reward for it.
I'm mulling over doing a sliding scale kind of reward for some bounty items. Take the bodak tooth, for example; I was thinking of a sliding scale bounty that offered x gold and y xp up to a certain level, and then beyond that level the bounty offers less (or no) gold and a better xp reward. The rationale for this would be that low levels could really use the gold but that gold becomes less reward for higher levels. But a bodak can still kill a character, so it's not like there's no risk in going against one...thus, higher xp for higher level characters.
I'm kind of thinking aloud and I'm interested in pro/con comments in regards to bounty rewards that change after a certain level.

I like the idea BW but how about doing it along a good/evil twist.
unknown to the good town folk, the bounty hunter guy also purchases items of a more disgusting type such as babies skulls, fingers of little orphanage children etc... since he has a particular buyer for such unspeakable items as well.
This convo would only appear to a toon of evil alignment.

This convo would only appear to a toon of evil alignment. The bounties are going to be intentionally ambiguous. Your level 2 or 4 toon is more or less concerned with survival and not so much moral choices. More or less. I'll get into questing that has the good/evil and lawful/chaotic twists but for the purposes of getting a few levels in a beginning area I'm keeping it out of bounties. Let's say you're turning in a gargoyle skull...is it proof that undead has been dispatched or is it destined for the alchemy table of some necromancer? Do you know? Does it really matter? I'm building very low level places around the cities just in case we go with multiple entry points based on race. If we never go that way it's not a big deal. If we go that route and I haven't built with that in mind then there could be logistical problems. Every area that I've built, ABW included, is with the possibility of going the multiple entry point route. In fact, I'm going to start a thread to see what we want to do...

If you make items that can be turned in for a bounty, make it so they automatically load on every player in a group after each kill and make them no drop, so a high level don't go around killing massive amounts of bodaks and having a low level pick all the loot up. Also, if you can make it so they don't load on someone if they have someone 5 levels higher then them in the same group on the same map.

BW, May I suggest you consider taking that tiny spider off the spawn list down in the Valahna sewers below the pump house?
It spawns on 1st lvl toons and when your solo and it strikes; the bugger takes your only lvl and you die. It is almost like an "on hit" vorpal or death attack.
My concern is for those new and rare players who come and solo (since our community is so small soloing is the reality) will become frustrated and leave.
Just this last week I was talking to someone who died from that thing and was not happy about it. In fact because it was so small and hard to see for the player they did not even know until I told them to review the combat screen..why they died.
So in an effort not to alienate players I am asking please remove overly deadly things like this to harder to find areas.
Collecting rat whiskers is a main staple of getting xp and gold for lvl 1-2 toons. Having to face this death trap as soon as you enter is probably not the best advised configuration. Thanks!

In regards to that spider. It seems the Wraith Spider (level drain killer) only spawns when you are level 1. Otherwise it spawns a tiny sword spider that has a mild poison for level 2. Might be ok to leave the spider in but just change the level listings for the wraith spider until later on when you can handle something like a level drain.
