Those of you who are familiar with the current crafting situation please post recommendations on what can be done to improve crafting on Talus.
Old ideas are welcome if you think they were not addressed enough previously.

A NWN2-ish crafting system, where Craft Armour and Craft Weapon *gasp* actually have a use! (I doubt this will be implemented though) Also, better crafted weapons and armour. The current ones are things that no one in their right mind would work toward due to how little you get for how much effort you put into it. Much like Runescape has been and always will be Make the harder-to-craft materials produce much better stuff. A +2 enchantment bonus is kinda useless for spending eons leveling your craft armour level when any level 10 can buy a Full Plate +3 off of Xhol or anyone else.

It would be nice to see some more improved items. I'm not saying the final result should be a +5 keen holy avenger that does 2 damage of every element, but something a little more useful would be nice. I like the work that goes into crafting. Perhaps upping the difficulty, along with the quality of the items would be nice. I for one would love to see some better bows with the crafting system. Maybe make the potions you create Greater Bull's Strength or something, rather than plain stuff. But I haven't crafted in awhile, so maybe my memory is faulty. It would be nice to have a reason to brag about being an expert scroll writer, or enchanter, or something. Also, I still don't know if Angelica Leaf was put onto the server. That was...3 years ago now, so there is a chance it was put in and I missed it.

Angelica leaf has been there pretty much all the time from what I remember. At least it's never been one of the things I couldn't find. Potions and scrolls are actually one area where you can make stuff that suits your level. Rory's making Heal Potions for instance and my MUs can make scrolls of at least some of their highest spells. That said adding items has been discussed a number of times and apparently is non trivial. There's a program to help you design them but getting them into the database seams to be a problem at least from what I've hear described (I did actually look at it once but it's been a while). Crafting some items can also supply you with a fair bit of coin.
That said I'd like to see vendors who bought and sold crafting supplies at reasonable prices. 1gp for a mithral ingot is just not right....for either party. I've got a bunch more to add but am a bit tired to day will try sometime this weekend.

Yes, Foscadh and I were talking about this one day and it has always been something that I too was interested in to know and that is, how hard would it be to make the ore that you get from crafting worth more then 1gp?lol.
I remember the very first time I tried crafting and managed to find a gold ore area I thought this char was going to be rich from all the gold and silver that I mined.
I tried experimenting with this with some of the chests that you find in any of the Hag's lairs by putting in gold bars that sold for 2500 but could be sold for more or less based off of rp.

I'm trying to enchant a spear for a friend as an RP gift, but the spears got nothing. It's all halberd..... this is kinda upsetting. Show the spear some love, people. I agree with everything but the whole NWN2ish system. ;D

I have adjusted the values of processed ingots. You may need to place old copies into storage chests to convert to the new value.

Yeah, the thing I've never understood *prepares a Reflex Save roll just in case* is why people aren't satisfied with the crafting system that was actually IN the game in the first place. Sorry, but in the single-player campaign (and other modules), I've made stuff that actually is more than phenomenal (in my opinion) from simple Craft Armor and Craft Weapon checks, simply manipulating the right materials at the right times. I think the problem is that people have gotten in to their mindset too much of a power-gamey "gottahaveititis" that even I fall in to every now and then, but meh. If you ask me, the actual game mechanic is all you really need.
Just my two copper, though.

Because it wasn't in the game in the first place. Both of the crafting systems that have been used on this server predate the Bioware one. Furthermore the Bioware one tends to discourage crafting in that it cost exp. This is in line with the P&P version of D&D but one of the areas I feel needs to be changed when moving from P&P to the computer. Crafting in P&P tends to take very little time which is after all probably the most valuable commodity. Where as in the computer it takes up a lot more time. Thus should be rewarded with exp rather than cost it to level the field.
My computer is acting a bit flaky so will post this before I loose it. Hopefully more latter.

I bet that this subject has been brought up before however, I’m going to bring it up again. I have just started to venture into the world of crafting and finding it lots of fun. However, I am also finding it a bit over whelming. I really like how it gives you the true feeling of learning something new by making you run all over the place gathering deferent items for your craft, but I’m always grabbing things that I don’t have a high enough level to work yet. For instance I am working gems right now, I can’t get any higher in things like green stones but I also can’t figure out what my next level of craft able gem should be. Maybe someone who is really good at crafting could right something like; “crafting system for dummies” I know this dummy would love it. P.S. I read through the section on gem crafting already.

Throw ANY item into the particular crafting device you're using. If you have the right equipment in your inventory to craft, it will display a list showing your next option. You can even go so far as to select that option to see what you need, and how much of it.
