// Hi all, I thought I might post the backstory for the mystical islands that my Kobold and Lizardfolk characters came from. That way you're not in the dark as to what has happened there. Enjoy.
// EDIT: Redoing this post, since it is extremely out of date.
The Sulpheret Islands are a group of islands with many ancient technological marvels on them. Many different races exist on the islands, most of which are constantly fighting among themselves. These races are actually the result of genetic engineering from the time of the Ancients.
Long ago, the ancient human civilization was building its technological empire, when the great planar rift shattered. As many dragons will tell you, this resulted in many strange races such as Kobolds and Elves coming to the world of Talus. However, very few know that when this happened, a small group of humans took several specimines of these new races to a group of islands that was being developed to have many different climates. These specimines were genetically altered, and bred, to create new races that the humans intended on using against the daemon incursions that were occuring. Unfortunately, by the time they had finished making the new races, the daemons had reached the island. The few humans left on the island were slaughtered, and their helpers, Slaadi who were lawful and not chaotic, used their powers to kill the remaining daemons.
After this occurance had happened, the Slaadi decided it would be best to seal off the island with a magical barrier, so that no more daemons could attack the islands from the mainland. This had an unexpected consequence; as time went on, and the daemons were attacking less and less, the barrier was becoming more and more useless. However, since the Slaadi could not see out of the barrier, they continued believing that taking down the barrier would result in the destruction of their work. Eventually, after many Lizardfolk and Kobolds had left the island, the Slaadi became evil, and refused entry to any outsiders of any type. The island was completely invisible, and only the legendary Yasha Falchion could see and break the barrier that kept it invisible.
Thanks to this occurance, the races on the island became more and more spiteful of each other. The Lizardfolk Alliance, which consisted of good hearted Kobolds and Lizardfolk, had long been the undisputed rulers of the tropical section of the island, but the Druchii, white skinned Drow with jet black hair, who had long ruled over the northern ice fields, were constantly besieging the Lizardfolk Alliance with their limited amounts of ancient technology. Unfortunately for the Druchii, the Lizardfolk Alliance was the only group of races that still had most of the technology of the ancients; this technology included suits of armour that looked like Shield Guardians and Iron Golems, portals that could warp a being to any world or location he or she wanted, and gemstone cannons that could fire beams which could destroy large military units with one shot. However, unbeknownest to the Lizardfolk Alliance, the Skaven, a group of purely evil beings whose appearance was that of a permanent wererat, were digging a tunnel into the temple cities of the Lizardfolk Alliance. This backdoor attack was extremely unexpected when it hit, and the Skaven managed to destroy all of the Stargates in the cities before they were eventually defeated. This was extremely costly, as now the Lizardfolk Alliance lacked an instantaneous transporter to get to any location quickly. The lack of this technology resulted in the Druchii gaining a slight upper hand in their assaults.
After many bloody battles, the Druchii were eventually driven back to their homeland, thanks to the leadership of Kroxoatl. With this temporary defeat, the Lizardfolk Alliance sent some of their best warriors and craftsmen to the mainland, guessing that the people on the mainland may be able to help them find the Yasha Falchion. Among these warriors was Kroxoatl, who was blessed by Sotek, the serpent warrior deity of the Lizardfolk Alliance, with the blood of dragons. Kroxoatl had long wished to free his people from the tyrannical grasp of the Slaadi, and travelling to the mainland was going to be his only way of obtaining the forces necessary to break the Slaadi barrier and free his people from the tyrrany of the Slaadi.
Unfortunately for Kroxoatl, the Yasha Falchion is still extremely well hidden, and it is said that only a being of 10,000 years of age can open the sealed room it lies in. The little dragon-blooded Kobold has only been alive for half that time, so unlocking the Yasha falchion will most likely not be possible for him.
Also unfortunate for the Lizardfolk coming from the Sulpheret Islands is that the Slaadi's power has completely sealed off the island, thus ensuring that any Lizardfolk or Kobolds who leave the island will never see their homeland again, until the Yasha Falchion is unearthed from its treasure compartment.
Some day the islands will probably be reclaimed, but for now, the technology of those lands is beyond the reach of anyone. Rumours have it, though, that the Lizardfolk Alliance is using a ton of scraps of ancient technology to create a flying city that will travel outside of the barrier. Whether these rumours are true or not will not be known for some time, but if it ever does come to be, then the Slaadi may not have to be defeated to reclaim the islands for the Lizardfolk Alliance.
