I've been told there are some who have expressed concerns over their privacy what with this system displaying everything people say while in the server. It is true that the program currently displays everything everyone says on my server screen. Of course, I've not been in that room in 3 days since I've bought a laptop and now do all my work out here on the couch... Plus, I'm not the type to sit and read people's conversations that aren't meant for me... I have responded a few times to discussions that mentioned asking me something, but only because I looked over at the right moment to see it on one of the 10 last lines the program displays. However, I am going to change the listener program to only send tells into the database (where they are internally processed by the server and then destroyed, because it would kill the hard drive to keep it all and continually parse it), and not display Tells on the screen. Thus, if you are seriously concerned about your privacy, you can use Tells instead of normal speech. I again point out that it only shows the last few lines spoken before they scroll off the screen, so there really is no reason to worry, since I normally leave that monitor off and never go in there lately... but if you have serious fears, then use tells, as they won't get displayed. I may eventually alter the program further to only show things with a specific beginning like SERVER <message>.... Give me some feedback on your privacy concerns if they are an issue. -Lanthar

I've actually gotten questions anwered quicker that way than I other wise would have. Neverwinter is hardly the place to hold conversations where privacy is an important consideration.

I, on the otherhand need to have privacy.. I really dislike people listening in on my conversations. It makes me uncomfortable to know the fact that I am being watched.

Actually I thought "Talk"s only show up if you're in the same area to hear them. "Party" on the other hand does show up... mostly it just gets annoying as I'm usually trying to follow what someone is saying to me and I have to weed out 3 other conversations being displayed at the same time. Then thare are the SERVER messages like cleanup and the GUARDS telling me that Thruid is smacking them in the head... *sigh* "Tells" are what's made for "privacy"...

Can the program be altered to just not log TALKS to standard output? Seems like a simply enough change, but then I haven't browsed the source code.

"However, I am going to change the listener program to only send tells into the database (where they are internally processed by the server and then destroyed." Is this change currently live in the downloadable version of Tallus listener? If not, would you mind either showing me, or providing a different EXE with this change in it? Your program is great and the tell displaying is the only thing holding me back from integrating the system. Please send me an e-mail or reply here if it isn't too much trouble. aiq@eventides.net. While this is not technically the same thing, i would like to throw this in for general food for thought. Is it possible to have some kind of "tell" paste or use up n down arrows while in Tell mode to allow u to quickly cycyle thru ur own tells so that if u want to tell something just a little different or to another character but not type the whole thing out again...

I dont want to shock anyone, but I seriously question anyone's knowledge of the internet, playing any game online, that could believe in or ask for privacy.
Need privacy?
ICQ, MSM, etc... Phone Email Voicecom programs (like teamspeak. I have a TS server online everytime my PC is ON, you can do the same)
I just dont get it.
