In its current state, the Follow command merely follows the person who you say it will follow. It does not allow for attack orders to be issued by the person who is being followed, or even do anything other than follow should an attack happen. This kind of makes it hard to have a "pseudo-henchman" (a PC who happens to always follow another PC using two comps and one smart person) without running back and forth between the comps.
My idea is to upgrade the follow command to follow attack orders of the lead character. For example, say Xhol was being followed by a Lizardfolk Fighter who was training to become Xhol's bodyguard at some point. Under the current system, the Lizardfolk Fighter would simply stand around when Xhol starts attacking. Were this change to come into place, however, if Xhol got into a fight the scripting for it would automatically choose a target and the Lizardfolk fighter would attack it with standard melee attacks (power attack and other feats would be player-controlled only, for simplicity's sake), until one of the two died.
Even if this only worked with non-magic users, it would be an EXCELLENT thing for RP, as one character could have a small group of helpers without the need for the NWN henchmen (they are REALLY out of character in Talus). Even though it requires multiple comps and copies of NWN, those of us with way too many comps would love to have this option. (cough BW and Osa cough) Plus, it makes being AFK with a fighter-type character a little more bearable, as you can follow and then automatically attack if need be.
This also solves the problem of Custom Henchmen, as a Player character requires no resources on the server, compared to a custom henchman who requires a ton of scripts and conversation files.
This would be great if you could add it in. Thanks
