Scores of centuries have passed since the cataclysm of the ancients. In the early decades after the fall, dragons emerged as powerful wielders of force and magic and claimed their places in the global struggle for territory on the planet. Generally speaking, the struggle in these new lands pitted chromatic dragons (black, blue, green, red, white) against the metallics (brass, bronze, copper, gold, silver). The gold dragons were the most organized of all as a group and banded together, electing a single leader to follow and a council of advisors to aid their leader. The chromatics were threatened by this organization but remained to their individual means with perhaps only the red dragons forming loose associations and alliances when it served their purposes. The others of both types woluld generally stay to themselves, for the most part preferring to stay away from the turmoil of other parts of the world.
The silver dragons, however, had a peculiar fascination for the ways of humanoids, primarily elves and humans. More so than any other species of dragon, they would immerse themselves in the strange ways of humanoids, choosing more often than not a human form over true form and settling in the towns of people. Thus, they could witness and experience first hand the behaviour of people as the struggles following the fall of the ancients unfolded.
Fate took a different turn for the silver dragons when they took up with some people fighting a loose conglomerate of black dragons. The black dragons at the battle were defeated but from that point on never forgave the interference of the silvers and began plotting against them. The silver dragons were able to do for the black dragons what they could not do on thier own - work together against a common foe. And so the black dragons began forging associations amongst themselves and loose alliances with the forces of evil whenever it suited their goal of exterminating the silver race. As decades and centuries passed the black dragons began to realize success at their goal of silver dragon genocide.
In recent times the silver dragons have been fighting a losing battle against the blacks. Faced with the threat of extermination the silvers have been experimenting with other means to keep their race alive, principally using a process to allow humans and elves to become half-dragons. The experiments and processes have been highly secretive and so little is known about them. The common knowledge among the peoples of Talus is that the silver dragons are on the fast track to extinction and nothing is stopping the blacks.
