I built this area as an expansion to the deserts on a request from Frome cause he remade the watcher's keep and it was epic level and in a common area for low level players to wander into so we thought it best to "port" the watcher's keep out of Alvar and to somewhere else.... enter the Halidian expansion. The south side of the top, north map was to connect to the new Watcher's keep.

I saw Frome's revised Watcher's Keep and it was supposed to be a keep that slipped into the epitomy of evil.
Why not make what is left of Halidian Flats connect onto a fiery pit of hell? The layout has this interesting spiral inward like you're being sucked into a drain. Have it go into a party high epic area to either go up against an enormous demon or demigod, or have high epic encounters and leave the big, mean, boss of hell a DM/quest area only.
Just tossing out ideas, but Frome was going to have a bastion of unholy evil lead by the duke. The basic premise with some changes could be interesting.

Can make it a huge desert ruins, maybe with a powerful sphinx that ask you a really hard random riddle, and if you get it wrong, it attacks. Or it can be full of rakshasa. Id say, make it alittle harder then akrona, but easier then battle isle.
Make it like akrona that you cant portal in or out as well, so you can just port in to the good stuff

Yes, agreed, with the exception of the Big Boss. The Big Boss encounter should be high party epic tough. And maybe the best way to do the Big Boss Evil Demi-God encounter is by way of a DM.
Ruins would be good. I would tend to see Halidian Flats as thus being an ancient area and maybe the destruction that results in those ruins is the result of the planar upheaval that brought Talus out of ancient times and into the present as we know it. So I kind of envision enemies that are elemental and planar - it would be a good area to have some planar baddies that don't have anything to do with the largely human events of the Lost and Battle Isle.

I like this idea. Perhaps some kind of open ended area with a few big bad boss monsters (of various levels) that DM's could choose from to do such quests without having to follow a specific theme. Good idea BW. Can make it a huge desert ruins, maybe with a powerful sphinx that ask you a really hard random riddle, and if you get it wrong, it attacks. Or it can be full of rakshasa. Id say, make it alittle harder then akrona, but easier then battle isle. Make it like akrona that you cant portal in or out as well, so you can just port in to the good stuff I really like the sphinx idea too. Might even be a good place to include medusa and gorgons! Hmmm, harder then Akrona, but easier then BI. Is BI really harder then Akrona? Never thought of comparing the two really. I think it might be harder then Akrona due to the sheer size of it. But BI and Akrona each come out at 41/43 maps each? *Looks to Slide/Mek/& Matt* Is it possible to script something like the sphinx riddle idea? How hard would that be? Good thoughts here, thanks for the input. Mage area will take priority over this one of course. But if it's built as a DM event area then this one would be easier and faster to complete. I might just switch them around in build order, not sure yet, but getting the terrain in there for DM events is easy as it's just a "shell". -LT

... Might even be a good place to include medusa and gorgons! Medusa, gorgons, basilisk, and thingyatrice are only interesting to very low levels because being turned to stone is really just a temporary parilyzation due to the difficulty setting of the server. They have a high yawn factor, really. I've never bothered with learning Stone to Flesh because there is no need. I don't spawn these things on anyone over level 5-8 unless it's to give them something to hit. However, if enemies had high enough monk ability that turning to stone was essentially a stun attack that could jam things up. There are a lot of unexplored enemies in terms of planar baddies and elementals (maybe customizing some to uber them up, too). (Edited: Thingytrice?? The forums go overboard in their filtering...

Lol @ thingy.
Do Flame Salamanders count as planar? I can see them kinds of creatures being in league / control of the Firelords.
The Medusa & Gorgons would be better suited to say the farther interior's of the Stingers of the Halidian deserts. I had originally thought of them as minions to a powerful Medusa clan.
More thoughts to ponder....

I've been working on this region some, and so far it is being designed as a dm event only area. DM's will be needed to provided teleports to connecting maps and to provide encounters.
Without going into spit and polish, I'm using alot of "wild" factors (randomness in terrain) and generally trying to leave it as "Open" as possible for DM ideas, but it does follow a "Path / controlled" route.
Have created so far another 3 of 8 maps for this. Shouldn't take long to get the others done.
If it would have any semblance of a theme what-so-ever, I would call it a "High level challenges" area.
