What to do, what to do....here's your chance to tell us what you think.
Once upon a time, Alvar was more important to the Talus setting than it is today. The main builder(s) and characters that were involved there are no longer (how many of us know about the Watchers?) and now Alvar just kind of takes up space. It's time to do something different here.
One option would be to condense the city some. Combine the interiors, eliminate the bandit area, eliminate one of the magic shops, expand the sewers with the sewer tileset (which is very cool if you haven't seen it), eliminate the castle and just have a mage tower for the Valtor blood quest...give it a makeover that gets some resources back and makes it more interesting.
Or - kill it. Incorporate some of the merchants and the quests into the South Peridotia Coast. Maybe the Temple of Cthorna makes more sense being in the Port or Peridotia Village? Maybe Alvar combines into Peridotia Village instead?
Another option: Complete makeover. Keep the quest stuff intact but everything inside and out is different.
Or you have a different suggestion? Let's hear it. Alvar is stale and it's time to do something about it.

OK I for one know that there are watchers but I have no clue what they are. I would love to see the above change. perhaps make it more realistic. Like a bayou or everglades.

I would like to see alvar redone so that there is an area for evil characters to go and kill good aligned npc's. Maybe recreate an elven city, with killable npc's that respawn after a certain amount of time. It can still have a castle and the mages tower for the cthorna quest. Perhaps you can have some drow quest that requires you to murder a certain amount, or a certain surface elf and return to the drow city for the quest. Something like this could be more of a reason to play a drow or other evil character. Just some ideas to get the juices flowing.

OK I for one know that there are watchers but I have no clue what they are. I THINK alvar was a "frome" place.. To serve his main character who had a castle down there to subjegate the citizens as i recall him telling me once. Never been a big fan of alvar city but a total redo would be more appropriate than just losing it; unless it was RP'd destroyed by some force or other and replaced by ruins or some such. please not another dwarven undead city though. lol

The thing about Alvar is this: Why would it be there and be the largest city on the island of Peridotia (which is currently the case)?
What I think I would do as a story behind it is to make it a river city (which would be one reason why swamps are nearby), and have some resources of importance nearby (importance to survival, not necessarily CNR resources). There are no farms nearby so it would have to have been a place where crossing the river there was strategically important or it never would have grown into a city.
Since it's the largest city and there's a lot of different interests at work there, it would also make sense that there's a sizable chaotic or evil contingent out there. Having an evil based quest or two would make more sense in such a place as opposed to, say, Snow City.

Complete makeover it is.
Alvar will become completely different, and I will be using some of the new tilesets for much of it.
I will be working on Alvar after redoing the swamps and the Blue River Castle undead areas.

Change of plan....
Not with the Alvar makeover, but with the timing of it. I decided to redo all the areas between Peridotia Port and the Volcano Hills, to redistribute CNR resources out there and provide encounters for levels up to 12-15 depending on what you are.
I've changed up the maps, so you're going to have to go by memory here. Next I will consolidate and change the Bandit areas. After that I will update the Alvar Road cave (with the kobolds, where you go for one of Selune's quests).
After that I will be updating the outside Dorigin Island areas.
I'll be poking away at general stuff with Alvar but it won't go in until after these areas are completed.

I suppose we could see about getting vlotka to make another set of world maps like he did oh so many years ago once BW gets a stable build up.

I remember the watchers. In fact, part of the reason I made the Halidian Flats expansion was to move the watchers keep from Alvar when the "Duke" fell out of favor with the people. Ohh memories, so many memories here, like another life lived...
Reads like your doing a wonderful job BW, keep it up!

*clears throat* Ahem... If its not too presumptuous, I would volunteer the HC to take over the castle and change the landscape some. If you don't have your heart set on making it evil, we may be able to bring some life too it. Chang the swamps between Peri and Alvar to be more inviting to travelers, and keep the castle an outpost for the UFTN alliance under the control of HC. I know we haven't been overly active the last few months, but I am slowly changing that as of late. My own job is starting to lend to more free time, and my brother is assisting me in guild matters now. I would suggest keeping the castle at the edge of the swamps, but not in the middle of it as it appears to be now. One of the reasons a lot of people don't go that direction I believe is that it is not very inviting, and people don't like the travel through that swamp land. With Alvar, we might be able to bring a taste of HC to Talus in a serious way, and seriously extend the influence of the UFTN to Peridotia. For evil and skulduggery, you already have the pirate port on peridotia. The "HC Keep" may be a good check and balance to "The Duke". HC has already had a military presence once in Alvar in the past when the King was kidnapped. Im sure we could RP into it. My brother and I are willing to work with you in depth on such a project if you like the idea. Give it some thought
