I was playing a newer character of mine, a level 4 char, and as I was running about the challenges I thought again of whether we want to do something similar on Talus 2.
I haven't even entertained tokens such as the Challenge tokens for T2, mainly because I don't see T2 having a freebie transport anywhere like that. However, I did get to thinking about the viability of a variation on the challenge token that might be ok.
While I don't want a freebie transport, neither do I want a device that pretty much does the same as a respawn; 50 xp/level and a gold hit. So I guess that can leave a few options and I'd like comments on what you think of them.
What PCs would have is a home city token that really only works in the relative vicinity of your home city. It's not going to work in places far, far away and it won't work in places where a party really should be traveling. So the options:
- Have a token that is the same as the challenger's token when it's not used on Peridotia; 50 xp/level or 50 xp/level and a gold hit.
- Have a token that, if it can be used, takes 25 xp/level or 25 xp/level and a gold hit.
- Don't fool around with transport tokens at all.
What's the consensus?

Is there anyway to make it so you have to purchase a teleport type item in a store in the city that it will teleport you back to, also making it no drop so you can't drop it for someone else..that way you have to actually visit the city before you can port to it. You can also make it 1 time usable and it goes away, making you need to buy another. Can make them like 1k so people who want to teleport will need to spend gold but can save themselves exp from not dying. I think they have items like this in other games called scrolls of recall.

I have played a MUD that used 'scrolls of recall' and then moved to 'shards of recall' that worked like BW is saying. And like you suggest, they are single use and must be bought. They work for local areas and not across the whole world as well.

The best one I have ever encountered was in Diablo. It was a one use scroll that opened a portal to travel back to the last town you were in. It stayed open until you went back through to where you were in the fields. All the towns had a standard portal like in star gate. this was the entrance and exit for the portal scrolls. diablo.wikia.com/wiki/Town_Portal
