I've switched the module to use the PWFXP system for a week or so just to see how it works out. I've no clue how people will like it, nor how it will REALLY affect things. However, give it a week. Then put your thoughts here.
This is an attempt to address the amount of people using hack and slash as a means to level up to 40 by camping an area with monsters that give high xp. If things don't work out with this system, I'll chalk it up as a learning experience, and maybe go for an xp cap. Note that I can adjust the % xp as people level up, change level difference adjustments, and do all kinds of things to make this system totally different... so go read about the system on nwvault. Note: any flaming or such things posted here will be deleted.

I like it. Tried it out, and it makes more sense. No longer shall you gain 23 xp for killing something that cons Effortless! Huzzah for "old school" feel!

I don't require a week to comment on this due to the fact that I play an ECL 1 race: Tiefling. In the previous system I usually got ZERO xp from monster kills that are Moderate to Effortless range and 20 to 40 xp for Even Cons (for you non-muds folks thats the "Challenging" Con). In this system, no change, can't get less then Zero folks Doesn't bother me one bit, might bother other folks playing Higher ECL races. Cya in the Game Toodles! ~Lass

Actually, I haven't noticed any problems directly.
Now as for word of mouth.
I hear you can't party if you are more than six levels apart of or they all get no xp?
Is this correct?
Thanks,
Greyfax

Not quite. It's only the ones that are more than 3 levels from the average party level that get no xp... I think... I'll have to check. I guess if there are only two people in the party and they are 7 levels apart, then yes, neither of the two will get xp.

I don't mind this system except for one thing. The penalty for variations in level in a group.
I fail to understand how this promotes RP?
I realize the aim of this is to reduce power lvling but this simply makes it slightly more difficult to power level and by no means eliminates it.

Okay lets put it this way... lets say that you, a humble peasant boy, is traveling with Timmy the Kensai. Lets see here... here come peasant boy with a + 5 pan of fury charging at the eeeevil goblin... Ack! Timmy the Kensai easily dispatched the eeeevil goblin by simply kicking the eeeevil goblin in the shin...
Did the Humble Peasant Boy learn much of anything from this fight?
Answer: No... not really... HOWEVER!!! If a PC would like to train annother... feel free to ask me about it and I will DM with the PC training the weaker PC... I will give XP according to the teacher's Skill, Charisma, and Rping ability-- Or something.

One intresting element this brings forth about "training".
If you physically travel together but don't use the bioware party function it really does take on more the feeling of training.
You can't do the kill for them, but you can weaken the foe, buff them or call out instructions about how to fight it.
The downside is the lack of the other neat parts of the party function that have nothing to do with XP.

...Ironically, Greyfax, I've been on servers that have been programmed to do just that in a more severe way. Partying was disabled altogether. Made life very interesting...and, in my opinion, very cool. A real pain in the ass during DM-run quests, though, but nonetheless it made more of the "training" feel you guys seem to be alluding to.

:-) My point was not about training.
My point was, if I'm level 15 and I just happen to have a travelling companion who is 22, neither of us get xp. I don't think this is right.
Most of my current characters IG friends are well above or below him in level. So this directly and adversely affects me. I don't level very fast. I play usually in 2-4 hour sessions and a good part of that I spend RPing as much as I can.
So people like me are punished for not trying to rush to keep up with others who play more frequently is my point. It's just very frustrating for me.

In a way it's a rock and a hard place. Given the factors of power leveling vs role play.
I think you should just set all kills to something very modest like 10 XP period, regardless of party & levels.
Have all serious XP be given out through DM or scripted quests.

Then you have the problems of...
a. Regular run of the mill DM's just watching and helping never being on.
b. DM favoritism.
