I have noticed an enormous increase in player vendors lately. Too many adversely affects the server. I recommend that new players wait to hire a vendor, wait for the shine to wear off and see if you do like Talus. I've had my vendor for over a year and seen very nearly all the others come and go.
It used to be that I would wait for a couple of months of inactivity before killing vendors. No more. Inactivity=dead vendor. Non-payment=dead vendor. Tiny stock of garbage=dead vendor. If you plan on having a vendor, maintain it please.
Also, players get one vendor. I just combined vendors for a player that had two and killed off one. It's different if you have some something solid like Bix's stock and RP going on, that's one thing, but justncase was the ONLY player I ever saw that with. So be warned - I'm getting hardcore about the vendors. Use it or lose it.

In response to this type of thing, there are already steps being looked at to limit the ability to purchase vendors, it seems that everyone has gotten the impression that the 2nd thing you do on Talus.. is buy a vendor to throw things on. It is really out of hand. If you don't have something to sell.. that YOU would want, then don't put it on your vendor, it's really that easy. If you just want to keep stuff somewhere we have many chests that will hold 5 pages of items without anyone noticing. If you don't want it, sell it to a regular merchant for gold, the bank doesn't lag

*Sniff* Bix Emporium... The Premier Emporium (George P. Vendor - former District Manager) ((The McFee Janitor))...
- Bix Emporium didn't even start until Bix was like level 15 or so? - Then it was clear sailing (er..mountian trudging - who needs a boat when you *POP* to where you need to go? Until George was kidnapped ... at least twice...once with a ransom note ... Then the Guard Penguins were eaten (I won't mention WHO ate the penguins ...but Ari knows! (knew)). - Think things had settled down, but then Bix went and got on the bad side of the Goblins and Kobolds...and a couple irrate dragons... (Gobins ... Kobolds...no sweat....) -- Then I had to leave, so there goes an Era of Merchant-Wizards. -- Miss ya all ... JustnKace -

Yes.. No ones vendor was better than Bix's. Some may have been better stocked but.... the RP was what really sold Bix's stuff.

With regards to player vendors....
I have looked at what the vendors have in their inventory and a lot of people were carrying junk..
I have gone through every vendor that I could find and clean up all the vendors. Yes even my own vendor was guilty of this. He has been cleaned up as well. Although he was cleaned up a few days ago by Amarok himself. He does not get the luxury of having his extra items purchased. LOL.
Now by cleaned up I mean I have bought all non magical/non crafted items. I have bought all items that are multiples (except potions) so if you had 2 +3 Kite Shields I have purchased one.
PLEASE NOTE: your vendor has been paid for any and all items removed from their inventory. At the price you were asking for those items when purchased.
I have done this for every vendor I could locate regardless of location or owner.
We all should look at what we have on our vendors in the future and do what we can to limit lag from them.
Here is a general idea on Vendor etiquette I propose that we should all follow so that we do not have to have hard core restrictive rules to follow.
1) no placing of any crafting items such as aloe, hops, grain, gem dust on your or anyone else's vendor
2) one of each item only (other than potions and heal kits these sell fast)
3) no items that are Common such as woodsman outfit or torches these items are available in shops if you want them go to the shop to buy - remember what Mek said... if you do not want this item do not place it on your vendor
4) Peridotia already has enough vendors, if your vendor is already in peri ok... if you are just getting a new vendor I would suggest looking some where else to locate your vendor. If you stock good items they will come.
5) Ask yourself... do I really need a vendor? If you are unsure or the answer is no... don't get one or get rid of yours.
6) if you currently have a vendor in Peri... one of the DMs has moved all vendors to the NE corner of the city. Please seriously consider if your vendor is there if you really need one.
7) if you have multiple characters on the server do not get 1 vendor for each. Please use 1 vendor for all of your characters. (this will maximize profit on your vendor)
8) Do not use your vendor for storage. As previously stated in Mek's post. There is storage in the bank and the house of forges for items you wish to keep.
9) If you are going to be offline for an extended period of time. Remove your vendor stock and fire the vendor.
10) think about your fellow players when setting up a vendor or stocking a vendor. The more NPCs in an area the longer the load time for that area and the more items in the vendor the more server lag it will create.

Then someone brought to my attention that there were several venders with multiple duplicate items in their venders. I decided to help clean things up and yes, there were several venders with this problem. I just wanted to give you all a gentle reminder of the rules. Thanks, DM DH

I don't even know how to get a vendor, and I've been trying to figure it out since I got here.

I believe Stephen is all squared away now on the PV thing. If not, just ask for more specific information here on the forums Stephen.

I am asking Nicely to please don't put crap on the vendors. I am tired of going in to clean out vendor cause each Item cost the player 1 gp per item. When you got common things liks slings, umbrellas, flags, brews ( jumping junier brau, big rock brock, cherry river lambie silver buckle gin ect) chain mal morning stars. If they don't have a +1 at least to me they can be cheaper where first enter the server before gaining entry to Peridotia.
Thanks

In regards to vendors...
I have just set up two additional vendors in our Embassy crafting area to help with inventory management as the storage chests were getting full quickly and were getting harder and harder to mange. Also, opening a chest with 15 pages of ore was causing lag something fierce, and people were having to do so multiple times to find the items they needed.
To remedy this, I have moved all products not of base nature to the vendors and this appears to have cut down on lag considerably due mostly to less chest opening and shutting. One stop shopping as it were and auto short keeping the need to look around down.
I would like to extend this to the other corners of that room for enchanting, alchemy, and scroll making, but want to get ideas from others if there are better ways of dealing with in-house crafting inventory.
My thinking at this point is that 1 vendor for every two purposes with 5 or 6 pages of items each is much better than 3 chests with pages and pages and pages of items. Its easier on me for organization, thats for sure.
Any thoughts? Can a character have more than one vendor if they are private vendors? Are too many vendors in an area dangerous in some way? At what point does a vendor become overburdened?
Thanks in advance.

I could be wrong and rfree would likely be the best source on this but it is my understanding that a PV is basically just another storage chest; the big difference being your allowing others to view/purchase from your "storage chest".
So if your lagging chests out its likely your going to start lagging PV out as well.
It has been discussed on the forums a couple of times over the 8+yrs that server admins appreciate a couple of guidelines with PV. Not having many of the same item; in other words dont have 10 rods of rez and 10 of the same sword etc..
What is happening is the storage chest and the PV make a call to the same DB (different entry is all) and for every item listed in the DB associated the server must "create" it each time the PV is spoken with or a chest is openned as well as recompiling the DB for that PV or chest in case it changed (updating the DB)

We're going to need to move that crafting stuff off the vendors and into chests. I went into a vendor with pages of small items and I'm pretty sure that timed out our connection. If that's the case then I kill vendors immediately - I won't have a vendor impact the server like that.
Let's off load the stuff from the vendors and get them into chests. I'll work in that for the next update.

UG!
Remember, we put all that stuff on the vendors in preparation to allow you to place the custom scripted chests to try and reduce the lag. Can we have you do that before we start moving stuff again?
This is turning into a chicken or the egg type situation.
I took a look at all those crafting vendors, but nothing appeared to be missing after that last reset. I haven't seen the item disappearance happen to anything on the vendors except armor and weapons pages....so far.....er.....well.....until almost all the rest of the stuff off our main vendor disappeared. :-(
The furniture store chests are just about ready to be destroyed so you can place your custom chests.

UG! The furniture store chests are just about ready to be destroyed so you can place your custom chests. I will put in chests right now. Please destroy empty chests immediately - I do not know what adverse things might happen by having furniture chests in the same place as placed chests.
