Did you get a chance to read my post on the DM boards Endarn? I believe I explained fully my reasoning for offering these many suggestions.
In all the hour's I've been playing and in all the hours I've been logged in as DM I've only witnessed this power gaming once, and that was just recently. Even then, I was still very impressed with the rp they were doing.

I would like to see Clerics and Pally's get a detect evil ability. There's plenty of toys on the vault that already do this or maybe a visual effect when you come within a certain distance of players/monsters ?

K, first off, would be great if someone ( preferably a dm or the owner at the very least ie. authority figure who knows what he/she is talking about ) posted something at Ye Old Tavern on the nwn forum. You should have a look at how many peeps are posting in search of a world. Just this week I've pm'd four of them suggesting Talus with links to everything. Things that grab attention are crafting, NO HCR ( in big bold letters at least ), death penalties, resting restrictions, OH and the subraces !!! don't leave that out , and then the majority of the post going into detail about dm's participation and quest's available ( both npc and dm'd ), lack of dm's is one thing that'll kill a pw fast. Should also update the gameworld at the vault. the readme specifies up to lvl 20, something that'll make peeps turn away right off the bat. And lastly, but no less importantly, the forum here. It's......not getting used too often. One thing peeps will look at is the worlds links, the forum specifically. They need to see the forum isn't dead, else, they assume the world is. Know what I mean?

Wasn't talking about changing anything, just getting the word out a bit so we could get some peeps to notice the place even exist. Many have heard of Lanthar, few, if any, have ever heard of Talus. There are a ton of mods out there, many choking with bugs and horrid scripting, like the one I just left. But they're constantly getting new blood daily. It's because the players and admins ( owner/dms/admin ) are getting the word out, making sure the place looks even better than it really is. Breathing life into it via the forums and at the nwn place.
Is a real shame that one of the few nearly perfect pw's out there with true persistance and such excellent roleplay, offering such a huge variety of things for the player to do, see, experience is so unknown to so many.

Maybe I should appoint a publicity rep... Well, I'll get nwvault updated and throw something on nwconnections... As for trolling the nwn forums for new folks, I barely keep up with these ones nowadays... So much I have to take care of... I could really use a person to do that.

trolling the nwn forums is something I've been doing for a week now. I see someone post a rant/request for pointers on mods, I send em a nice personal invite....IF they aren't one of the action server types, that is. So it's being covered already. So far, about 10 pm/invites have been sent as of today.
I probably could've done more, but tonight i'm past exhaustion, after spending all evening in the emergency hospital ward with my oldest boy who's broken several bones in a 4-wheeler accident. Tomorrow it's to the surgeons and a hunt for a wheelchair that can take woodland terrain *sighs*

Why not simply copy/paste this readme into a post at the nwn forum and the nwc forums? is pretty impressive. ====================================== You arrive on the Island of Peridotia in the midst of a crisis. The volcano is restless, and that means only one thing. Cthorna, God of the Volcano, wants something from the residents of the island. However, those who were sent to answer him never made it through his challenges... required of all that wish to see him. Can you make it through his challenges and find out what he needs? This is the first of many quests available on The World of Talus - Persistent World (using NWNX) - 3 Years of Existence - Over 850 areas - CNR Trade Skills - 23 Subraces - 10 Template Races - Scaling Encounters - Player Housing - Arcane Teleport System - Over 30 scripted quests and more every week. - Nightly DM run quests - Home of: - Talus Speech Recognition System. (Makes NWN into a MUD without NPCs!) - The Persistent Player Bonus System - Persistent Player Vendors - Persistent Chests and Bank Vaults - Lanthar's Forceable Doors - Lanthar's Riddle Doors For more info: lanthar.dyndsl.comFor current players online: lanthar.dyndsl.com/serverstatus.phpCreator/DM: Lanthar D'Alton Other DMs: Vlotka, DeltaKnight, Chass, Rogue King, Lithorlas Synithus, Frome, Longtide, Arrond, Dyrch Webmaster: Anj Server Name: Lanthar's Lair Module Name: The World of Talus Hakpak: CEP Game Type: Role Play Level Range: 1 through 40 Max. Players: 64 Server System is an Athlon XP 3200 with 1.5GB RAM ====================================== Yeah, it's just the readme, but says it all, no? would add a forum link tho

Because you and Anj are the longest standing players on the server... and she got webmaster props and doesn't really DM much these days... and I'm told you still do a lot of welcoming and introducing...

*prepares to duck as she is fairly certain that some people are a bit irritated with her*
First, compliments. Nice world, fair sized player base, DM presence is a little spotty but overall pretty good. The extra subraces are nice, though there are a ton of them running around which caused me to scrap my first concept for my character's personality.
Most of my immediate suggestions are little ones. The start point being in a place that gets you killed very easily is not a great idea. There are several minor details that I have pointed out to Lanthar, and when I am in a better mood for typing my notes up I'll give him a better list of them.
On a more serious note from a new player's perspective, the start point being a fatal area aside, the respawn to same area which is not 'safe' as it is supposed to be is a big turn off for the solo player. I agree that not everything should be soloable, but your first ten levels or so should be. It can take that long to make friends when you play at a low traffic time of day.
Errors and non-specific instructions on crafting are also a no no on primarily rp worlds. The personality that will rp with a rock is also the personality that will explore and learn to make stuff. Not everyone is stubborn enough to trial and error through a craft when the instructions say one thing and reality is quite different (there are no smithing tongs...add them or edit the instructions!).
On reading the DM rules on the main website, I noticed that ad hoc baddy encounters are against policy. Personally I think the best rp and adventure comes from things like that last drow assassin that cries for parlay while waiting for back up to arrive, but that is just me and I don't mind dying for it.
Updating NWVault is a good idea, but the best new players come by personal reference. Focusing on making the players that do wander in happy enough to tell their mates what a great time they had is the best way to get quality players.
I am sure that I have more thoughts, but I think I have said more than enough for one day. I am pleasantly surprised and enjoying my time on Talus for the most part. Keep up the good work.

Original post hacked to bits to take up less room But moving the starting point from Lomatin is not a bad idea. Even though there is a text reference for newbies to start in Peridotia, the thing with all mods that we must remember is that "See the World" syndrome. "Run here, look at this. Let's run here and look at that. I wonder what's over here." Everyone knows that when you come to a mod for the first time you know absolutly nothing and you want the quickest feel for the game as possible. In other words, "If this mod is really good and I like it enough to come back here regurlarly, I'll have plenty of time to read the signs." Pretty well much sums up MY attitude to mods, at least. First thing I want to do, on joining a new PW, is explore. Even now, after almost 2 weeks here, I'm still spending a lot of my time on Talus just wandering about, exploring. I agree with what most others have said in regards to this. I think the xp is reasonable on Talus. It's not like some servers where you get 500xp per kill for certain monsters - which to me takes the fun and challenge out of leveling - nor like others, where it's a chore to try and gain levels If by this, you mean, having a wider range of itesm available on ALL merchants, then I would agree. It's a real pain having to travel from place to place just to stock up for your next venture out into the wilds. Expecially if you get to one place and realise 'oops, they don't sell that here, I'll have to go back to the other place'. The more powerful items, I think, SHOULD be in places that take time to reach. Like Snow City, or the city on Dorigin Island (if it's still going to be left in the mod, I believe Lan mentioned something about removing it?), etc, etc. There are already 'bosses' in Talus. While having Bosses can be a good thing, having too many can be, well, a tired formula. I don't mind doing simple quests like, get item from point b, bring back to point a. Heh, not everything IS soloable. Well, not for a level 10 Fighter/6 Cleric who likes to travel alone. Your Goblins come to mind, for one . Some are dead, easy ( and dead easy, too ) while others are VERY challenging. The hard thing of trying to this, is you could end up with a server much like one I just left, where - until you get so far above the spawn levels you're getting no xp - nothing is soloable, unless you take along a lot of Heals.. Or even for those times when you don't really want to RP, OR travel with others? I know I have times like that... I can think of one area in particular that's a cnadidate for this... Now, for MY comments.... I have only one, really... Please, please, give us actual recipes for crafting. Instead of things like, with Gem Crafting, the 'recipes' are simply what gems are needed to make cut/fine gems... Like, Cut Sapphire = Mineral Sapphire, Fine Sapphire = Cut Sapphire. Why not something like say.. a recipe for a particular amulet or ring, which lists actual ingredients. At this point in time, the only reason I'm even continuing with gem crafting, is to mine gems, to make gold. *shrug*
