*snip* Why not something like say.. a recipe for a particular amulet or ring, which lists actual ingredients. You can, either go to the CNR website and download the recipe spreadsheet (Metagaming?); or "use" a Jewelry table with a finished gem on itand you will then see a list of all the recipes, just click the red options to see what you need to make anything. hint, you will probably need a miner, tinker and enchanter to get anywhere. Mat.

You can, either go to the CNR website and download the recipe spreadsheet (Metagaming?); How many people are actualy going to either know this, or WANT to do this, though? I know I did, I got so frustrated not knowing what was needed for certain recipes. Even now, I have to ALT+TAB out of the game to check. (no, I don't have a printer, but I'm getting one soon(ish) ) I know about this, too. Not much help when you're out doing stuff, and you thnk 'Hmm, do I need this thing, or not? I can't remember' Then you have to wait until you get to a jewler's shop, usea a table, and bingo 'Yeah, I did need.. guess I have to trek out there again' I know this already I'm not asking for each and every recipe to be available. Just, perhaps, the first dozen or so for each particular crafting type. That is, recipes, not instrunction on how to make cut gems, or iron ingots, or cloths, etc. I could do up some stuff myself for the game, if it came to that, and if Lan approves it.

If I'm reading you right you want to know what an item does as well as what it's components are: For instance (this is not a real example) a ring of +1 STR is a copper emarald ring it takes one ingot of enchanted copper and one enchanted emerald. Is that the sort of thing you are looking for or did I mis read you?

Dredges this old thread up from the darkest bowels of the forums and dusts it off.
Let me first caveate my following comments with a "please dont take any of my ideas as a ding on the server or its care takers" (at present its rfreeborn but every DM & builder counts also).
#1 Crafting on talus stinks. needs a new crafting system #2 Too large for the average foot traveler. Could use some diablo like portals or the ability to portal from city to city (small towns/villages excluded). If your not a mage or monk enjoy the scenery. #3 Treasure revamping needed. Actually this one I added because rfree is in the process of revamping the lootable chests to a timer based (some of them anyway) and I felt it was worth letting everyone know. #4 Subrace sprucing up. Again this is another one I believe rfree is looking into right now.
Thank you to rfreeborn for continuing to run the server during these slow months we have found ourselves in. While I dont pretend to appreciate the full amount of work or the tasks you deal with in giving us a server to enjoy, I do realize it isnt free to you. Thank you to each and every DM & every builder who has or is working on giving the players the best experience possible. Without each and everyone of you talus would be dead. (I know it doesnt seem like much is going on but most things happen behind the scenes.) Finally, to all the players who stay, who go and come back or just finally find talus.. Thank you for adding your own spice to the pot of fun called talus. slidermike

Greetings Talusonians,
“Crazy” Zack and I are truly enjoying your wonderful world! After trying several other PWs, we find Talus to be the best by far. Almost zero “server jumpback” in the lands of Talus! Jumpback is a major problem on all the other PWs we’ve tried.
So, I believe we’ve found our home! Where should I post our bios and character history? And in that same frame, we wonder if you give experience points for well written character info/history ( the Gods know poor little Delisha could use it!)
Anyway, thanks for all your hard work, it is defiantly worth it to Delisha and “Crazy” Zack!

Welcome home fellow Talusians !! You are indeed most welcome and we just want to know where you have been for the last 8 yrs?! Seriously though; Talus is a HUGE world that is very mature and has something for everyone one. We have crafting/exploring/RP/hacking (my personal fav). about the only thing we dont have available is PvP though it is allowed as long as both players agree ahead of time and we do prefer a DM present just in case. As for where to post character bios/stories there is a wealth of them right here lantharslair.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=storylinesplease feel free to read others players journals as well as adding your own. Typically we dont give xp for character journals but there is always the exception case as dictated by the situation. Mostly you will find xp comes from 5 situations. scripted quests (all of which reset every 30 days so you can redo them). Monster killing This typically involves leaving town to adventure. crafting gems, weapons, potions etc. DM questsWere currently doing a new DM quest sunday if you want to attend. RolePlaywhen a DM is on and watches RP the participants will often receive small RP xp of 200-500 a piece. (DM discretion of course) I highly recommend you get familiar with the new PAW in your character inventory as its being integrated into Talus 1 area at a time. It brings a much more PnP feel to the computer. Also go to the merchant in peridotia port who sells ropes/grapples and sleeping bags. You will want at least one of each of those! Feel free to post questions/comments here in the forums as well as interact with others on the game. We have a great family of players and your participation is encouraged.

There are several options to writting character info/ history. I like the Role play for my "journal" Now for instance the latest post I did. It was in Roleplaying, cause it dealt with areas in the server. This is my perferrence. With each of my pc that are one of my mains ones ( I got close to 50) I try to explan the RP behind them. Some change due to the rp they take. Osa for instance is very dilutional, convinced she owns smugglers point. She has married a wealthy half silver dragon with a castle and it has totally gone to her head. She has never been afraid to stand up for what she sees is right and just. Yes she's a rogue, just not the typical one ( more of a robin hood).
Looking forward to reading your stories..
Although guilds are basically non active. Osa is head of a rogue guild and welcome rogues ( which I like to be the main class). She is for hire if you need things taken care of *grins* here eyes twinkle when she hears about door, locks and traps that need tending to.
Welcome to Talus !

Greetings from Zack and Delisha,
We are Michael (Grandaddy) and Lingaz, a couple of ancient, iconoclastic soul-mates with a slew of kids, grandkids and great-grand kids ; )
Outside the Realm – Michael I am the PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association) New York State Coordinator, and own and operate Chainbiters Disc Golf Course, just outside of South Dayton, New York. A disc golf addict, I tour from May through Oct following the Can Am Disc Golf Series.
I write satire, parody and poetry in the irreverent tradition of social observers like Mark Twain. My hobbies include metal art, web-site design, and computer graphic art.
Inside the Realm – I have over 30 years experience as a D&D DM creating scenarios for my loyal followers. I still host a weekly PnP game for several local college professors during the winter months.
Lingaz and I began RPGing on the Commodore 128 with Pool of Radiance and The Bards Tale (1,2,3). I created my first RPG programming in 128 BASIC w/ sound. It was a lot of fund at the time. LOL! Since then we’ve played them all. We both consider the Wizardry series the best of the lot until NWN.
NWN vs NWN2: IOHO, NWN is a far better gaming experience than NWN2. We both dislike the “forced companions” so prevalent in the NWN2 OCs. I did, however, create my first NWN module “The Ritual” with the NWN2 Toolset, but when NWN 1.69 was released along with the CEP PACK, I eagerly embraced the Aurora Toolset and was not disappointed!
I now work exclusively within NWN and currently spend about 2/3 hours per day working on my “Frankenstein” creation… Port Slather – Night of the Jackass. As you might expect, Lingaz is my devoted game tester allowing me to spend all my time building and creating my modules.
Although we have gamed together over our LAN for many years, we are very new to the online PW experience as we live in rural western New York and have just acquired high-speed satellite service.
We are totally enjoying the Talus experience… but could probably use some pointers on protocol… we have played for years with no visible bottom screens… and have no idea as to when we need to response to somebody… we don’t want to appear rude, but also hate to break immersion… ??
At your service, Grandaddy and Lingaz

we have played for years with no visible bottom screens… and have no idea as to when we need to response to somebody… we don’t want to appear rude, but also hate to break immersion… ?? There are 6 "chat" modes online. /DM whatever you type in this mode is going to a DM only channel that ALL online DMs can see. It is also used for subrace speach. /Shout This is to do strict OOC (Out Of Character) shouts to the entire server patronage online at the time. Typically reserved to make many aware of something such as a quest or issue and over use is frowned upon by seasoned players. /Talk This is the default chat mode and can be heard just as in real life by those within earshot. It is IC (In Character) form of speech. /Whisper This is also IC but reduces the earshot range to creatures within only a couple of feet. /Party This is quite a popular form of both IC and OOC communication. EVERY member of your current party sees what your saying even if their on the other side of the world. No one even standing right next to you can see it unless they are also in your party. /Private This is strictly OOC and is communication ONLY seen by the recipient. Not even party members or characters standing next to yours can see it. Its one on one talk. Now there are 2 modes of talk within Talk/Party/Whisper that alert other players to the fact the communication is OOC. If the text you type is preceeded by either // OR )) (pretty much any double non standard character) that tells the recipient that your text is OOC. (DM/Shout/Private are considered OOC by nature) Following are some examples..each mode with start with an IC then an example of OOC speach. (the / is included in the command line syntax for it to work.) /DM hello God I need help with this character issue I am having. (there is no IC for DM chat) /Shout A great clap of thunder is heard through out Talus. /Shout //Is the server laggy for everyone or is it just me? /Talk I see goblin tracks leading north Belfor, so let us be cautious. /Talk // Can you tell me where to find this NPC please? /Party Make all due haste and join me now, I am being overrun. /Party //Dude I totally got owned by a demon. Can you come rez me please? /Whisper Did you hear what the auctioneer said about that artifact? /Whisper // This quest really isn't my cup of tea lets leave it. /Private <Slider Mike> Hi Mike, its good to see you on the server today. (there is no IC for private) Private chat requires you to use the PLAYERs name NOT the characters name. Thats the MANUAL way of chatting. The easier way is to click on the left of the chat box where it says TALK and choose which mode you want to chat in (it keeps in that mode till you change it; log out; or override it with the above manual modes. We also use what is called *emote* by putting the *TextHere* around your text what your doing is describing what others would see, hear or otherwise gather by being near your presence> An example.. *before you stands a tall human male with blonde hair down to his shoulders. He appears to be wearing well worn leather armor. He smells like he just came out of the woods after a long trip.* It would NOT be true to impart... * Marcus just came from Snow City and taken the back woods path.* As no one would KNOW his name, where he came from or other information unless you RPed it. Correct... *A women come running by screaming at the top of her lungs, her arms flailing about.* Incorrect... *Jan Brady has had it with hearing about Marsha. Having lost her cool she runs down the street screaming in frustration.* Again you cant "know" why another toon is doing something unless your personally IC involved. Also try (including the *) *help* *actionhelp* *characterhelp* *subracehelp* for more valuable information.

I KNEW there was something else I was forgetting !!
Talus' speach system uses shortened unique ability. In other words instead of typing /Shout Hey everyone there is a party in the Inn!
you can type /s Hey everyone there is a party in the Inn!
In almost ALL talus command line arguments you can be as short as you want as long as the shortening leaves the command unique.
/s = / shout /w = /whisper etc
This also holds true for other cool commands. Here is one of use. If you want your character to follow another character (player or NPC) you just stand next to that character then type the following. <follow Luthar Vandrose> (including the <>) If there were no other toons in the near area then you could shorten it down to . <follow L> If there was a Luther and a Lennie next to you then you would only have to type enough to make the command unique.. <follow Lu>

The following is my suggestions on how to make Talus a better place. This summary information is the short story from the original post I made on module suggestions. If I've looked this post over, it's been a long, long time. I thought it was interesting to revisit it and so I'm quoting and responding insofar as T2 relates to these suggestions. 5) We should look at Hak packs. And we did. And if you have not been on T2 you should take a look sometime, just to see what NWN can still do. And keep in mind that I've kept basic areas kind of basic...Panoramas notwithstanding, I'm waiting on epic areas to create some stunners. 6) We should try to up the xp scale. (Edited) I brought the xp scale down. Playing for a week should not get you to epic level. What's more, if I think that leveling is happening too fast I will bring the xp scale down more or create xp bottlenecks. As it is, for right now there is nothing for an epic to be doing yet, so you might as well take your time in getting to level 20. I will have barricades that keep epics out of certain areas intended for low levels, and keep low levels out of epic areas. 7) We need a thorough overall on the available items in game. Both in stores and in drops. Better merchants should be put in farther to reach cities... Yes. Not only will some stores only be available away from home cities, but some merchants won't talk to you unless you're the right sort, or won't sell higher level items if you're not a high level. 9) Not everything should be soloable. Whats the point of a multiplayer game if you can do everything alone? This will be the case on T2; more so in epic areas, however. 16) We need to make the farther outlying areas of Talus harder. No 15th level character should be able to get to certain areas without help. Absolutely, and this is happening. The home cities are in a rough circle. Low level/CNR encounters are mostly what you'll find. Also, in the immediate vicinity of this home cities circle there is more in the way of "natural" creatures - for the most part there are no aberrations, planar creatures, magical beasts, or undead. These will pop up, away from beginning areas, as the story of the area(s) dictate.
