Just now a friend and I were trying to use my desktop and laptop to get him started on Talus. He started his PC, Khaarok a minotaur and I helped him get the PC Book. When I tried to log on as DM or PC with him already on it booted him. I closed NWN and when he relogged at the start area there were 2 of him. He had to get a new PC Book and then went through the gate but when he appeared at Peridotia he was booted again. I logged on as DM to see if the 1st Khaarok was still in the start area...it was and my portrait changed to his. I 'quick killed' Khaarok and got the 'respawn/exit nwn' screen.
The desktop and laptop are using 2 different sets of key codes. I've not ever had troubles playing NWN with more than 1 computer from the same IP at the same time before. Anyone have any insight to this?

Yep, You ran into the classic issue of two pc's behind a firewall. Each pc needs to be using a different port (NAT) issue ... Do a search in these forums about multiple pc's behind a firewall. Probably need to make sure your search goes back 3-4 yrs. Can also google it for step by step directions.
Hope that helps.

Found via google search. "I'll add the problem will only occur when running the game on two (or more) different computers and connecting to the server though a common network router.
When running multiple instances on the same machine, NWN automatically allocates a different client port to each instance as the operating system wont let two program running at the same time use the same client port."
"If you want to run NWN more than once at the same location an initialization file will be need to be changed on each extra PC that wants to connect to the same server.
The file is called
nwnplayer.ini
On windows systems where neverwinter nights has been installed in the default location this file will be in:
c:\neverwinterNights\NWN\
Every PC on the same connection need to have a different port ID.
Look for the Profile section and then change the client port ID.
Example:
PC 1 nwnplayer.ini [Profile] Client Port=5122
PC 2 nwnplayer.ini [Profile] Client Port=5123
PC 3 nwnplayer.ini [Profile] Client Port=5126
The sequence of the port IDs is not important.. That they are different is.
What's Happening. The NWN server uses you IP address and client port to track what is happening to a character logged into the game."

O wow, what a blast from the past.
I remember making that change between my desktop and laptop many years ago. I remember having some kind of double logon issue, tho not as freaky as what Edohvi described.

I was wondering because 2 of those chars are mine and none of the 3 are online or were when you checked... I checked right before I asked the question and after. Khaarok is my friend that I was getting started. He does not have NWN on his laptop. Neither of us have been on since yesterday.

If memory serves me, once you get the server confused like that it takes a reload of the server to clear it out. Im pretty sure thats required. You have created ghosts in the system. I will reset the server. I was wondering because 2 of those chars are mine and none of the 3 are online or were when you checked... I checked right before I asked the question and after. Khaarok is my friend that I was getting started. He does not have NWN on his laptop. Neither of us have been on since yesterday.

Marcus, you will have to let us know if your friend likes Talus once you two get some playing time.
It would be nice to have players back.

I'm actually seeing the Diamond version of the game still being sold on shelfs here and there.
Saw a copy at Fred Meyer the other day, and also at Best Buy. Fredys had it for 13.99 and Best Buy for 18.99.

What does your friend need the disks for? Bioware removed the cd in drive check back several patches ago. Now as long as he has a cd key which isnt online at the same time he should be able to play NwN. Mike, what he got to see/visit of Talus he did like. I'm pretty sure he will play once he can get the disc set. He likes to RP and run amuck, heheh.
