i've been trying to figure out how to set up a nwn server for a couple od days now. And while there seems to be a lot posted on the subject none of it seems to help much. I have two computers set up on a LAN via a d-link di-604 router, and i've switched them from dns to static ip address' like all the instrutions seems to be saying to do. I've also followed the instructions from the following link: support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=1399#604written by d-link specifically for setting up the router for NWN. Still no luck. I can connect to the server over the LAN but not the internet either through gamespy (it dosen't show on the server lists) or direct connect. Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreicated.

All firewalls (software and hardware) must allow certain ports to go both ways (incoming and outgoing). So here is a bioware list of ports for not just the NWN game but also the gamespy server list. nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=396274&forum=49&sp=0Also, if your behind a hardware router, you should ask yourself if you need to run the software firewall app from Nortons. Personal choice but hardware firewalls are more than enough for 99% of home users.

Just for testing turn off any firewall protections you have and give it a go. Once you can connect thru game spy you can isolate the offending blocker.
I am curious though if you don't have the game installed, just the server app ( I wouldn't even know how to do that lol ), what program are you using to try to connect to the server?

Yes.. disable ALL firewalls inside the HW one to test at least. I think Periam, that they mean they don't have the game installed on the 'server' machine. You do not have to have it installed, just the files from certain directories to run it in.

i've got two computers on my LAN. one is running the stand alone server, the other i play on.
I've been harassing poor opaldragon for days if she can log into the server just to see if an outside computer can connect. No luck there.
i enabled the dmz thing and disabled norton firewall with no success.
My aim is Shado Rambler. If anyone would be willing to IM me.

I'll be around for about 2 hours if you want to post the name of the server/ mod and what catagory I'll try to join. This may be over simple but have you checked the box "Post game to internet"? *shrugs*

I don't see a post game to internet option on the dedicated server.
problem is that the server dosen't show up on gamespy and direct connect dosn't work either.

When the server is started it has a list of items....
Local characters allowed Enforce legal characters Item level restrictions
The last entry is Post game to internet. That box must be checked.

In the nwnplayer config file there under [server options] is a line that reads...
GameSpy Enabled=
0 means it is off and 1 means it is on.

Lanthar always suggests to check the IP of the server machine. http://www.ipchicken.com./ Very strange indeed.
